Dedicated to Ben..
The Invictus Trust was set up in January 2010 and is dedicated to the memory of Ben Cowburn, a wonderfully vibrant young man whose struggle with mental health issues had tragic consequences. The Invictus Trust is named after the poem that inspired Ben, written by Ernest Henley and used by Nelson Mandela as a source of strength during his jail sentence on Robben Island.
The Invictus Trust is a small charity which aims to support and offer services to local teenagers who are suffering from poor mental health and associated issues
We use all funds raised to help with:
Information – Supplying easy to understand on-line information regarding mental health terminology. Our web based Mental Health Portal directs to other excellent websites and sources of information including the 3 Invictus films. We offer plastic Invictus cards to all young people as a keepsake with our website address on it.
Campaigning – We campaign for increased awareness of mental health issues via our blog, FaceBook and Twitter. We are also campaigning for an innovative 14 bed unit to be sited in Cornwall so that Cornish young people do not have to travel out of county for their care. We believe Cornwall desperately needs this resource and the Cornwall Partnership Foundation Trust have published a fully costed business case offering two sites to the commissioners. This will be the first unit in the UK caring for 13-25 year olds in one setting.
All funds raised are spent on raising awareness and campaigning. No-one receives any remuneration for their efforts.
