The Invictus Trust would like to thank Anna Hughes and her family for raising an amazing £2500 at a wonderful house party with auction on Saturday 7th September in Carnkie. Over 100 guests enjoyed the superb food washed down with a barrel of Betty Stoggs kindly donated by Skinners.
Richard Winfrey led the auction in an amusing manner and raised an incredible £1500 due to the great generosity of those present and of those who donated incredible prizes including a weeks stay in a holiday cottage (Libby Reed), Yarg cheeses (Hussy Mead), Charter fishing trip for 6 (Gordy), Night in a gypsy Caravan (Sue Jenkins), Cornish Day Sailing (Trysail), hamper of homemade goodies and amazing cakes from Rosie Woodman. Invictus also received many other donations including some substantial cheques.
Anna requested that the money be put aside for Project Invictus, the initiative to provide an adolesent mental health unit for Cornwall covering the needs of up to fifteen 13-25 year olds. It will be the first of its type in the country and a full business case is currently being written following a succesful initial presentation the NHS commissioners in July of this year. A £5m investment is being requested which will stop the current practice of sending Cornish children out of county for care when they have a mental illness – it will also mean that young adolescents can be cared for together rather than be in the existing adult units or again be sent up to 200 miles from home.
